How does a right-hand-drive conversion work on a Ford Super Duty?
By Tyson Betts · 17 October 2026
SCD Direct remanufactures the truck for right-hand drive through a documented process. The steering, pedals, dashboard, controls and wiring are rebuilt for the new driving position, then the truck goes through functional checks and the engineering and compliance pathway. The conversion is done from the firewall back, so nothing in the engine bay is touched.
The stages of a conversion
- Assessment and planning. Model year, trim, drivetrain, driver-assistance equipment and intended Australian use are reviewed before major work begins.
- Cabin disassembly. Interior components are removed methodically so technicians can inspect mounting points, wiring routes, heating and cooling interfaces, steering components and pedal systems.
- Steering and pedal systems. These are remanufactured for right-hand drive using the approved design. Alignment, clearances, mounting integrity and operation are checked throughout.
- Dashboard, controls and electronics. Dashboard structures, displays, switches and wiring are integrated for the new driving position, then every function is checked.
- Testing, engineering and compliance. The finished truck is checked and moved through the applicable compliance pathway before release.
Why "firewall back" matters
Because nothing in the engine bay is touched, and the dash keeps the factory heating and air conditioning in its original position, the American aftermarket still fits your truck. Lift kits, snorkels and brake lines bolt on the way Ford intended.
How long does it take?
There is no honest universal conversion time. Timing depends on the vehicle specification, parts availability, workshop scheduling, engineering checks and compliance documentation. Betts Works gives you the current estimate for your selected truck and keeps you updated as it moves through sourcing, shipping, remanufacturing, inspection and handover.
